Frequently asked questions
How do I play?
Each case has three parts. First you investigate the crime scene: tap things to look at them and collect evidence. Then the trial starts and the witness testifies. Use ◀ ▶ to read each statement and tap 🔍 Press to question the witness about it — pressing is free and often gives hints. When a statement contradicts one of your pieces of evidence, tap 📢 OBJECTION! and present that evidence. Catch the lie in all three testimonies and your client is found NOT GUILTY.
What are the fish for?
You start each trial with 5 fish 🐟. Every wrong objection costs one fish. Lose all five and your client is found guilty — but the judge lets you try again. Win with all 5 fish for ★★★, with 3–4 fish for ★★, and with 1–2 fish for ★.
Why are some cases locked?
Official cases unlock one by one: win a case to unlock the next. You can replay any case you've already won to improve your stars.
How do new cases arrive?
New official cases and approved community cases are downloaded from our server while you're online — no app update needed. The first cases are bundled in the App so you can play them offline.
How does the Case Studio work?
In the Case Studio you write your own case: the crime, your cat client, the witness, the crime scene, the evidence and three testimonies with one lie each. Test-play it, then submit it. A moderator reviews every submission; once approved, the case goes live for the whole community and shows your display name as the author. You need to choose a display name to submit.
What are the Case Studio rules?
- Family friendly. No violence, romance, crude humour, insults or scary content. Everyday pet “crimes” only.
- No real people or brands. Keep every character and product made up.
- No copied content. Write it yourself — don't copy stories, jokes or characters from other games, shows or books.
- No personal information. Don't include names, addresses, contact details or anything that identifies a real person.
Moderators may reject a case with a note explaining what to change, so you can fix it and submit again. Players can report live community cases; reported cases are reviewed and may be hidden.
How do I report a community case?
Use the report option on the case in the App. Moderators review reported cases and hide them if they break the rules. You can also email us with the case title.
How is the leaderboard scored?
- Official cases: 100 points per star.
- Community cases: 50 points per star.
- Only improving your best result counts: replaying a case for the same or fewer stars earns nothing extra.
- Case authors earn 20 points each time a new player wins one of their cases.
There is a monthly leaderboard and an all-time leaderboard. To appear on them, choose a display name on the Leaderboard screen.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play without signing in. A display name is only needed for the leaderboard and the Case Studio; choosing one creates an anonymous player account on our server — no email or password. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the App, open the Leaderboard screen and choose “Delete my account”. Your player account, display name, points, ratings, reports and unpublished submissions are deleted from our server straight away. Published community cases stay live but are credited to “a former player”. If you can't open the App, email support@maxenergic.com with the subject “Cat Lawyer account deletion request” and your display name; we'll delete it within 30 days. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
